When choosing a good office chair, you should look at the “four dimensions”

Correct sitting posture is therefore important, but in addition to habit and persistence, it also requires the help of a suitable chair. So, how to choose a healthy office chair? Please refer to the following four basic essentials.

The seat height is slightly lower than the calf length

The height of the chair surface is mainly determined by the height of the knee and popliteal fossa. If the chair surface is too low, the pelvis will tilt backwards, and the load on the waist muscles will be greatly increased, causing symptoms such as back pain. If the chair surface is too high, the force will be concentrated on the bottom of the thighs, which will hinder blood circulation and cause symptoms such as soreness and numbness in the lower limbs.

Keep the chair surface level

Only when the chair surface is level can the thighs be horizontal, the calves hang down on the ground, and the hip joints maintain a natural 90-degree angle with the body. If the angle of the chair surface is not horizontal, it will not be able to maintain the three right angles required for sitting upright, which may lead to incorrect sitting postures.

The left and right width of the seat is slightly larger than the hip size

The left and right width of the chair should refer to the size of the hips to effectively support the hips and allow the hips to have an appropriate range of motion, making it easy to adjust the sitting posture at any time. If the chair surface is too narrow, it will not be able to effectively support the buttocks, resulting in uneven force on the buttocks and easily causing muscle fatigue.

The depth of the front and back of the chair is slightly less than the length of the thigh

If the depth of the chair surface is too large, the front end of the chair surface will easily press on the knee and popliteal fossa when leaning back, or the chair back will not be able to effectively support the back, leading to incorrect sitting posture.

If you still want your office chair to be more comfortable, you can adjust it in the following aspects.

1. The chair surface can be padded with a thin cushion of moderate softness and hardness, neither too soft nor too hard;

2. The armrests on both sides of the seat are of moderate height and should naturally support the forearms to ensure that the forearms are parallel to the office keyboard. The armrests can provide support when adjusting the sitting posture;

3. The rolling wheels of the seat must have a locking device to maintain body stability;

4. The chair back adapts to the physiological curvature of the human body. When the chair back angle is 90 degrees, it can better help the spine to stay upright.

As a final reminder, every 30-45 minutes of sitting, you need to get up and move your body to release the accumulated load on your spine.
